American Rimfire Association(ARA) Benchrest

ARA Benchrest at Zia: matches are conducted under the rules and sanction of the American Rimfire Association. Matches are held each month at the East end of the West Benchrest Range. For a complete schedule please consult the Zia calendar or the official ARA schedule at http://www.americanrimfire.com  ARA Benchrest is very challenging and requires specifically designed benchrest weapons, equipment, targets and ammo to successfully compete. The specific rules for this sport can be found at the ARA website: http://www.americanrimfire.com. Our club provides targets, target stands, wind flags, etc. for both practice and record matches. All participants are requested to review the rules for this activity on the official ARA web site before participating in this challenging and fun sport. Final scores and standings are posted on the Zia Website, the national web site and in the monthly Zia Newsletter. About ARA:  ARA is a sanctioning body for .22lr bench rest competitions.  Both the Unlimited and Sporter class have 20 minutes to shoot a 25 bull target for a maximum score of 2500. History: ARA was started in April 1998 by a group of .22lr shooters who wanted a great organization for competitive .22lr benchrest competition. They formulated the ARA statistics on which the awards are based and they kept up with all match reports and shooter statistics. In addition, they started the ARA News and the ARA website in an effort to get the information out to all ARA participants.  In 2010, ARA was bought by Dan Killough, whose goal is to continue the vision of the ARA founders by providing an honest competitive organization that is true to .22lr shooting. The ARA has since expanded into two divisions, Unlimited and Sporter.  The ARA News publication continues quarterly, and the website has been updated.  One of the most exciting changes in the ARA is the implementation of electronic scoring, which makes scoring targets faster and unbiased.  Electronic scoring is optional but encouraged for all ARA clubs.  Currently, ARA has clubs across the United States offering ARA matches and tournaments to anyone interested in precision .22lr bench rest shooting. We invite all members and guests out to participate or just observe our matches; any questions can be directed to David Ill at 505-235-4581, Ducdave@msn.com.
