Zia is offering Concealed Carry classes. There is a description of the classes below. The classes are open to current Zia members and immediate family only. See the Training Schedule page for the dates of the classes. If you are interested in one the classes or have any questions, email Tom Tomasi or call him at 797-2661. Two Hour Refresher Course: This class is for current concealed carry license holders. Per NM Law, the license holder must take a two hour refresher course between 22 and 26 months after receiving your concealed carry license. The course simply consists of re-shooting the qualification course required for the 15 hour initial class. There is no fee or paperwork required from the license holder to the state. However, there is a $25 fee payable to Zia. Four Hour Renewal Course: Attending this course satisfies the training requirement for renewing your existing concealed carry license. It is advisable to take this course 120 to 180 days prior to the expiration of your existing license. DPS has been taking approximately 90 days to turn renewal applications around so please leave enough time for them to perform their background check and re-issue your new license before your existing license expires. DPS does extend a 60 day ‘grace’ period to you if your license has expired. What this means is, even though your license has expired (and it is illegal for you to be carrying concealed) less that 60 days ago, you may take the 4 hour renewal class instead of the 15 hour class all over again. If it has been more than 60 days since you license expired, you must take the 15 initial training course again. There is a $40 fee, payable to Zia, for this renewal class. 15 Hour Initial Course: This course satisfies the training requirements set forth in NM law in order to apply for your concealed carry license. It is usually held on a consecutive Saturday and Sunday at the Albuquerque City Shooting Range Park one the west side of town. Due to a low demand for this class, they are scheduled on an “as-needed’ basis only. So please contact Tom Tomasi, per above information, to inquire about the 15 hour class schedule. There is a $100 fee, payable to Zia, for this class. |
