Zia Rifle and Pistol Club General Information. Zia Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in
1968 to promote the shooting sports. At the present time, Zia has over one
thousand members from all walks of life and all creeds and colors. They share a
unique bond, the love of the shooting sports. Zia is open to members 24 hours a
day, every day of the year, except when closed for range maintenance. Among its
range facilities, Zia boasts a 600 yard rifle range, several silhouette ranges,
a benchrest facility, bermed ranges for various pistol disciplines and the only
100 yard underground test tunnel in the southwest. Zia does not have trap or
skeet fields (although they do have a shotgun area with clay pigeon machines).
Zia hosts a number of competitions in pistol, shotgun and rifle such as IPSC,
cowboy action, action pistol, high power rifle, centerfire prone, big bore and
cast bullet silhouette, 3 gun tactical, hunter pistol silhouette, etc. There are
fun matches for almost any firearm and for people of all abilities. Membership Requirements.
Regular members must be a member of the National
Rifle Association (NRA). Copy of the NRA
Membership Card or label from the NRA magazine is required to prove NRA
membership. You can
join both Zia and the NRA with one check. Prospective members must not be
prohibited from owning or using forearms by any local, state or federal law. Membership Costs. One year’s membership in Zia costs $120 and one year’s membership in the NRA (if you are not an NRA member) is $35. Seniors 65 and over pay $75 for a Zia membership. Juniors (20 or under) pay $10 - $25 for a Zia membership and associate memberships (spouse or dependant child living in the same household as a principal member) pay $25. Payment by check is preferred. Cash payments must be for the exact amount and placed in an envelope. The membership year is 1 April to 31 March. A new member applying for membership on or after October 1st will be charged one-half the annual membership fee. To be eligible for the six month membership the new member must have never previously been a member of Zia. Membership Process. The membership process is being updated. Range Orientation. At the range orientation, prospective members tour the facility, are given a test on the range rules, have a chance to ask questions and can sign up for Zia membership at that time if they decide to join. The range orientation does not include any shooting, although you will need to bring eye and ear protection for the tour. There are restrooms but no water at the range. Range Directions. Turn east off of Broadway between Rio Bravo
and the Isleta Casino onto Bobby Foster Road. Bobby Foster road is 1.8 miles
south of Rio Bravo. The turn is the same turn as for Mesa Del Sol and on the
corner is 5J’s Auto Parts. Go over Route 25 and turn left onto Los Picaros road at the T. Go past
Ira Sprecker
road to the left. Turn right at the next road. There is a sign
for the Zia range. Take the first left. The road will end in two gates – the
gate on the left is the one to the Zia range. Pull to the right out of the way.
Someone will come and let you in the gate. Guests. Members are allowed to bring two guests to the range, but the guests must be supervised by the member. |
