Zia Rifle and Pistol Club hosts a wide range of firearm competitions and events. Members and their guests are sure to find an event or match that suits their current equipment and interest. Whether you are a new handgun owner looking to have some fun in our bi-weekly Action Handgun matches or an up and coming shotgunner interested in vetting your skills against other shooters, there is an event for you.

3-Gun Tactical: 3-Gun tactical uses three guns: a handgun, shotgun, and a rifle. Any handgun, shotgun, or rifle can be used. The event consists of two stages which are scored.

Action Handgun: Action handgun is a low-key, low-stress competition that is geared for new and experienced shooters alike. It features simple courses where all types of handguns are competitive. Action handgun provides a great way for you to learn and practice handling your gun competently and have a fun time while you’re at it!

Cowboy Action: Cowboy Action Shooting is a multi-gun shooting sport in which contestants compete with firearms that are typical of the Old West: single action revolvers, lever action revolvers, and doube-barreled, side-by-side, pre-1899 pump, or lever action shotguns.

Mid-Range Prone/F-Class: F-Class shooting is the newest form of target shooting that presents a challenge to even the best and most experienced hunter/shooter.

Junior Rifle: Junior division provides marksmanship instruction to junior members of the club.

Rimfire Benchrest: Rimfire benchrest is a .22 Rimfire activity that is divided into two dinstinct matches: Silhouette Benchrest and American Rimfire Association (ARA) Benchrest.

Shotgun: Zia currently offers two formal shotgun activities which are held on two separate days of each month. These shoots are open to all Zia members and their guests. There is a nominal fee for these activities:

    • Sporting Clays: 3rd Sunday of the month. Signup for this activity by email, at least 24 hours prior to each shoot. Maximum squad size is 6 shooters. Email your squad to ziasignup@gmail.com. Individuals or partial squads will be combined and squadded.
    • Wobble Trap: 4th Sunday of the month. This activity is squadded at sign in and shot to the west of the shotgun range storage containers.

Metallic Silhouette: Silhouette shooting involves firing at steel targets shaped like chickens, pigs, turkeys, and rams from various distances depending on the match.

Precision Tactical Rifle: The course of fire is never the same from month to month and is designed to test the shooters abilities in many disciplines. The targets engaged are steel and paper varying in size from MOA or smaller with distances out to 800 yards.

Family Rimfire Steel: This activity is similar to NSSF Rimfire Challenge with a focus on being affordable fun for the entire family.  This match is a .22LR pistol and rifle event where we ping steel plates of various sizes in an enjoyable, low pressure, and super fun competition.
